The TD Banknorth 250 qualifies through a “luck of the draw” system that assigns drivers to a heat race. The six 20 lap heat races transfer the top four finishers to the feature while everyone else must go into one of the three 20 lap consolation races. Only the top three qualify from those races and the remainder of the field must try to win the 50 lap last chance qualifier, known as the Hooligan Race, to get their way into the feature event 250. In 2005, Mike Rowe had to win the Hooligan Race and then race from 37th starting spot to win $26,000!!

-          The 1984 Oxford 250 recap is done and and up.  Click on the link to the left.

-          The auther of the original article, Herb Dodge, obviously felt like this was one of the best races he had ever seen.  I thought it was a good one as well, but there were a LOT of cautions it seemed and the race dragged on in the early stages.  I do agree with all of the excitement of watching the top cars all running near each other without one clear, dominant car.  Shepherd seemed to be headed that way as I recall, but got taken out by a lapped car (reminded me of Ben Rowe from last year actually).  Enjoy!
